1. What is a Schengen visa?
Sri Lankan citizens traveling to Schengen countries on business or as tourists may receive a uniform visa for a short stay of 1 to 90 days valid for Italy and Greece (Embassy of Italy), Sweden and Finland (Embassy of Sweden), Germany and Austria (Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany), The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg (Royal Netherlands Embassy), Norway, Denmark, and Iceland (Royal Norwegian Embassy), France, Portugal and Spain (Embassy of the Republic of France). The Embassy of the main destination is responsible for issuing the uniform Schengen visa. If main destination cannot be determined, responsibility for issuing the visa lies with the Schengen state of first entry.

2. How can I get the free application forms?
Application forms can be downloaded from our website 24 hours a day: http://www.italy-vfs.com. Application forms can also be collected from Monday to Friday at VFS visa application centre, 120/A, Havelock Road, Colombo-05.
Application submission time

  • Monday to Thursday 8.00 am to 2.00 pm
  • Friday 8.00 am to 12.00 pm.
3. How long does it take to get back my passport?
After submission of your passport to VFS, the Embassy of Italy requires a minimum of 10 working days to process a visa application. However in certain cases, it may take longer.

4. What shall I do if my application is incomplete?
Applicant should provide a complete file with all the documents which is required for your visa. If not VFS will not accept the application.

5. How can I collect my passport?
When Visa issued, VFS Office will contact you. Bring your receipt and collect your passport from VFS Visa Application Centre, 120/A, Havelock road, Colombo-05.

  • Monday to Thursday – 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm
  • Friday 12.00 pm to 2.00 pm

6. If the visa is refused
Your passport & other documents will be handed over to you at the VFS centre where you applied.

Please Note: The Embassy of Italy is not under any legal obligation to disclose the reasons for refusal of tourist and business visa applications.

7. If the Legalization of Documents is refused.
Your documents will be handed over to you at the VFS centre where you applied.

8. If the Legalization of Documents is done.
Bring your receipt and collect the Documents from the application centre where you applied.
